Biography

Tanja Ruždjak is a Croatian opera singer and lirico-spinto soprano based in Vienna, regularly performing on opera and concert stages in Croatia and internationally. She completed her vocal studies at the University of Zagreb Academy of Music under Martina Zadro and Dunja Vejzović, and continued her postgraduate training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien) in the class of Claudia Visca.

She is the recipient of numerous international awards, including the Grand Prix at the Jānis Zābers International Vocal Competition in Riga, First Prizes at the IMMC Maribor and Gabriela Beňačková International Singing Competitions, as well as the Zagreb Philharmonic Award for Best Young Musician.

As an opera soprano, she has performed a wide range of roles, including Mimì and Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Vitellia in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, Hanna Glawari in Lehár’s The Merry Widow, the title role in Kálmán’s Gräfin Mariza, Rosalinde in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, as well as Jelena and Melka in works from the Croatian operatic repertoire. More recently, she has also performed Sieglinde from Wagner’s Die Walküre.

As a concert soloist, she has performed major works of the symphonic and vocal-orchestral repertoire, including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mozart’s and Verdi’s Requiem, and Bruckner’s Te Deum. She has collaborated with ensembles including the Zagreb Philharmonic, Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, Wiener Klang Symphonie, Symphony Orchestra of the Croatian Armed Forces, Varaždin Chamber Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, Maribor Opera Orchestra, Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, and others.

Throughout her international career, she has worked with conductors including Pavle Dešpalj, Nikša Bareza, Leopold Hager, Hans Graf, David Danzmayr, Lorenzo Passerini, and Mason Luberto, and has appeared in concerts and international tours throughout Europe and Asia. Among her more recent international projects is a concert tour in China.
